Breaking with tradition

Is breaking with tradition for you

After photographing hundreds of weddings over the past 15 years, I have started to notice that a lot of my couples are realising that they don’t want the traditions from the past hundred years.  Lets face it, most of us probably don’t even know what the traditions are for, what they mean and why we do them!

Did you hear about the ‘Corporate Culture: A case of Monkey See, Monkey Do’? No?  You can read the full explanation here but basically it’s where we are all doing something because it’s always been done that way.  We don’t know why, we just do it, because (shrugs shoulders).

Why don’t you make it YOUR day.  You don’t have to have a confetti throw.  It doesn’t matter if you DO see each other before the ceremony.  If you want a wedding day YOUR way, then do it!  Obviously the law part you can’t change, it’s the law after all, but the traditions….. well, why not make your own traditions!

I know from experience, my couples who break with tradition have exactly the day that they dreamed of.  No undue stress about not having a sixpence in their shoe.

“I haven’t got a sixpence for my shoe!”

“Do you need a sixpence for your shoe?”

“Yes!”

“Why?”

“I don’t know, I just do!”

I don’t have anything against traditions myself, I just like to know the reason why I’m doing something.  And anyway, what’s wrong with being a maverick?  Let’s make our own new traditions!  What are your ideas?  Got any new ideas?  Are you following some old traditions? Let me know your thoughts…  and what you are planning for your day xx
